Senior Business and Finance Analyst

The Senior Business and Finance Analyst will report to the Director, FP&A and work closely with department leaders to help establish annual budgets, refresh quarterly projections, update revenue modeling and forecasting, and analyze departmental spend. This role will work to identify and communicate opportunities to drive improved performance while partnering with departments to ensure operational needs are met and financial value is maximized. This role will be remote, but may be required to come into Raleigh once a week for meetings.

As MMS is implementing a new ERP system, there will be many opportunities to improve processes, enhance reporting, improve collaboration with finance and business partners, and grow/improve your analytical and interpersonal skills.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Financial reports and analysis
    • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, year-end financial closing and prepare standard reporting, including summary of results, updated forecasts, management reporting packages, and revenue modeling.
    • Review and provide commentary to explain monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L variances between actual and budget and forecast (at the project, department/function, and company levels). Collaborate with the Accounting department to validate month-end close results. Facilitate the review process with stakeholders.
    • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities that affect the achievement of budget and forecasts. Track and report all assumptions built into these forecasts.
    • Define, develop, produce the standard set of financial reports and work with stakeholder(s) on reporting needs and frequency.
  • Business Partnering
    • Partner with various functions to provide cohesive financial support, ensure accurate and timely monthly reporting, share monthly results vs budget/forecast that “tells the story,”, and provide recommendations to improve performance and margins.
    • Work with QA and Accounting to develop financial internal audit plan and conduct periodic audits of current and past projects, test implemented controls of all financial transactions, develop corrective actions, ensure timely implementation of actions.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Assess current processes and tools’ utilization and promote process & tool improvements to leverage more ERP utilization and automation.
    • Identify and help improve internal controls for all financial activities and KPIs. This includes processes, policies, guidelines, and tools.
    • Continuously challenge legacy ways of working; identify gaps and recommend new ways of working.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Respond to inquiries from senior management and service line owners or other company personnel regarding financial results.
  • Assist in internal and external audits and compliance, as necessary.
  • Support all Finance initiatives, as required.
  • Ad hoc projects and analysis, as required.
Requirements:
  • College graduate Business or Finance discipline or related field, or related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Finance, Accounting, or similar field required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.        
  • Experience with Oracle/NetSuite and Hyperion/Essbase, preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail: ability to operate effectively under pressure and strict deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to track and manage multiple projects at a detailed level
  • Proven leadership skills: ability to effectively lead through influence and help shape business decisions
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work with others to clearly understand needs and solve problems.         
  • Hands-on experience with clinical trial and pharmaceutical development preferred.        
  • Basic understanding of CROs and scientific & clinical data/terminology, & the drug development process preferred.
