The Business and Project Financial Analyst I will support the Finance team in delivering accurate financial reporting, project analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance support. This role is ideal for an early-career finance professional looking to develop expertise in financial analysis, project profitability, forecasting, and business operations within a fast-paced, project-based services environment.
The analyst will work closely with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy, maintain reporting tools, support financial processes, and provide insights into project and business performance. This position offers significant growth opportunities into advanced financial reporting, forecasting, and business partnering responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Project Support
- Prepare and maintain recurring financial reports, dashboards, and reporting packages.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities through data gathering, validation, and reporting.
- Assist in tracking project financial performance, including revenue, costs, margins, utilization, and backlog metrics.
- Perform data reconciliations and investigate variances between actual results, forecasts, and budgets.
- Validate financial data across multiple systems and reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Assist with project financial reviews and provide supporting analysis to Finance leadership.
Reporting & Analytics
- Compile, organize, and analyze financial and operational data.
- Support the creation of presentations and management reporting materials.
- Assist in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities impacting business performance.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested by Finance leadership.
Process Improvement & Data Quality
- Maintain reporting files, databases, and financial models.
- Assist in improving reporting efficiency through automation and process enhancements.
- Support efforts to improve data quality, reporting accuracy, and standardization.
- Document reporting procedures and maintain process documentation.
Collaboration & Business Support
- Respond to routine requests from Finance, Operations, and other business teams.
- Partner with Accounting and Operations teams to resolve data discrepancies and reporting issues.
- Support audit requests and other compliance-related activities as needed.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and Finance initiatives.
Requirements
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Business Analytics, or a related role.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Experience working with large datasets and financial reports.
- Familiarity with ERP, financial, or reporting systems is preferred (NetSuite experience is a plus).
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools is a plus.
- Experience in a professional services, consulting, CRO, or project-based environment.
- Exposure to project accounting, revenue tracking, budgeting, or forecasting processes.
- Basic understanding of financial statements and business performance metrics.
